Born at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, she resided in Park Chester, Bronx and Brooklyn, NY, where she graduated from high school early, in her Junior year. She attended Hunter College and Brooklyn College; she was conferred her B.A. and M.A. degrees in education from Brooklyn College. Leslye enjoyed a diverse teaching career. She began her first position in New York City. Shortly thereafter, she joined her husband Mark in Germany (during the Vietnam War) to teach students who lived on the Army base. After stepping away from teaching to raise her two daughters, Leslye returned to teaching both as a homebound and classroom teacher. Her students were always very appreciative of working with Leslye.
Leslye was a dear friend to many and was always quick to lend a helping hand. She had a desire to always learn and took extreme pride in being a teacher. Always inquisitive, Leslye engaged frequently in learning at Beth El Synagogue, where she was a member. She enjoyed car trips with her husband, but equally, quiet walks at the "Duck Pond" would bring her much joy. Leslye treasured her family, and the times spent together for celebrations. She was wonderful about keeping in touch with everyone in her life, from writing cards to helping make a birthday special by sharing fun gifts. She always enjoyed seeing her four grandkids and hearing about their accomplishments.
Leslye was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Mark Nemerson, as well as her parents Joseph and Rose Elkin, and brother Stephen Elkin.
Leslye is survived by her daughters Stacey Palant (Adam Palant), Jacki Pitkow (Seth Pitkow), and her four grandchildren Ryan and Jason Licht, Alex and Andrew Pitkow.
