Max Brieff
August 30, 1924 – January 5, 2014
Max Brieff AGE: 89 • Monroe TownshipMax Brieff, 89, of Monroe Township, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Cranbury Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past two years. Mr. Brieff was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Abraham Lincoln HS. He also attended Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where he studied pattern making and fashion design. He worked for 40 years in the garment center in NYC for a number of womens' clothing manufacturers before retiring 15 years ago. He also served in the U.S. Army/Air Corps as a radio operator during World War II earning the rank of Private First Class.After moving from Brooklyn, Mr. Brieff and his wife, Gladys (Cissy), lived in Howell and Jackson, NJ. He enjoyed the Jersey Shore, walking on the boardwalk and spending time with his wife. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball, paddleball, and handball. He was an avid sports enthusiast. His son, David, said he challenged many younger paddleball players at Kelly Park in Brooklyn on any Saturday or Sunday morning for many years. His daughter, Andrea, remembers how he loved dancing with her. He was also a well-respected member of the NY Yankees Farm Team.In his leisure time, Mr. Brieff enjoyed singing, dancing, reading and spending time with his family and friends. His passions in life were his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. His wife said he was a wonderful husband and incredible father who had an infectious laugh and was a gentle, sweet, kind man with a love for life. Mr. Brieff and his wife enjoyed traveling. He will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cissy; his daughter, Andrea Brandt and son-in-law, Joel; his son, David Brieff and daughter-in-law, Donna; his grandchildren, Darren Brandt and wife, Joy, and Amanda Brandt Langelotti and husband, Andrew. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Leigh and Elle Brandt and Oliver and Annabelle Langelotti.The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel, 44 Wilson Ave./Route 527, Manalapan. Burial will be in Beth Israel Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 1 North, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
