I feel lucky to have "inherited" Uncle Milty by marriage and have had many memories to carry within me over the years. I listened to Uncle Milty's oral history several nights ago just to hear the voice once again. As with all his communications the honesty and sincerity shone through. Whether in a card, a phone call or in person, the genuine connection and interest was always there. It was especially poignant to read his recounting of a visit to LA in Patty's 60th birthday memory book which Patty and I will remember and cherish always. The sadness of the loss is magnified by not having Uncle Milty's energy , vitality and great sense of life to nourish us, but we all have abundant memories of him to keep us connected in some way.

Uncle Milty was so much more than an uncle to me. I always looked to him as the node of our family history, the one who would pass those memories to subsequent generations. Every year, regardless of place, he sent me multiple cards. Even when I was in London, he sent me a card for Rosh Hashanah, and in each of these cards was his spirit. I could imagine his voice saying "Hello, darling" and his constant curiosity about what I was doing. What amazes me about Uncle Milty is that he was like this with everyone. He spoke to my mother, his niece, the same way he spoke to me, his grand-niece, the same love, the same joy, the same sense of humor. It is this spirit that fills my heart when I think of him. He will always be my Uncle Milty.

Through Uncle Milty, I was fortunate enough to maintain a connection with my grandparents' generation long after their death.  I looked up to him for inspiration as a survivor and a loving person who never forgot a birthday or holiday.  Whenever I had an assignment in school to recount the story of an inspiring relative, he was a natural choice.  He delighted us all during family gatherings with stories, puzzles, and his charm but also carried the torch of those that came before him.  As we mourn, let us also strive to make him proud by inspiring the next generation ourselves and with his memory.

As I grieve over the loss of Uncle Milty, I can only think about what an incredible human being he was. I already  miss him and the sound of his voice on the phone. He was the most generous, nonjudgmental, kind, and loving person.  His passion for math and the arts always created stimulating and fun-filled conversations. He was a mentor who knew how to adapt to change and embrace life. He said to me, you just have to "keep moving." He will always be a part of my soul and spirit. As Larry said "he was a prince."

I am so sorry to hear about Milty passing.  Since the time I was 5 years old at the Passover seders up to recent weddings and family get togethers, Milty has always been a very welcoming and warm person.  He always treated me as if I was a member of his family.  He really was a wonderful man.  I wish all of you my best.
