Dr. Horowitz was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 22, 1932, and he moved to New York City at the age of thirteen. He later became a United States citizen, although he continued to cheer for his beloved hockey team, The Toronto Maple Leafs. Dr. Horowitz attended City College of New York, and he received his medical degree from Downstate Medical Center. He completed his internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Brooklyn Hospital. For decades, Dr. Horowitz was an obstetrician and gynecologist in Freehold, New Jersey, until his retirement in the late 1990’s. Dr. Horowitz was one of the founders of CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, and he delivered the first baby at the medical center soon after it opened. In the past, Dr. Horowitz served as the Assistant Chief of Staff in Obstetrics and Gynecology at CentraState Medical Center.
Dr. Horowitz loved bringing babies into the world and taking care of their mothers. Over the years, he welcomed thousands of babies and provided health care to many women at all stages of life. He also inspired two of his children to become physicians, and his daughter, Alyssa, followed in his footsteps and also became an obstetrician and gynecologist in New Jersey. He treated patients from all walks of life with compassion and dignity, and he was an advocate for women’s rights and for access to healthcare for all.
In addition to taking excellent care of his patients. Dr. Horowitz was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he also loved children in general. He had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a handsome smile. He loved to sing in his beautiful baritone voice, and he enjoyed listening to music and watching old movies on television. One of his favorite pastimes was reading The New York Times from start to finish each day. He was an avid sports fan. In addition to his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, he was also a fan of the New Jersey Giants and the New York Mets, and he loved to watch tennis on television.
After he retired, Dr. Horowitz enjoyed going to the gym, where he made many friends. His gym friends loved to get coffee together, in addition to working out. Dr. Horowitz loved meeting new people, and he loved to chat, especially about the topics of politics and sports. He also enjoyed speaking in French and studying the Torah. He was especially proud to chant from the Torah during the b’nai mitzvot of his grandchildren. Throughout his life, Dr. Horowitz was always friendly, outgoing, and gracious, and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
