Pearl Rich

Pearl B. Rich (nee Cohen) of Newark, Hillside and Springfield peacefully passed away on December 2, 2015. Born January 19, 1922, Pearl was raised in Newark. She graduated from South Side High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Newark State Teachers’ College. Pearl married the love of her life, Albert Rich, on December 22, 1946 and they celebrated almost 59 years together. After Newark, they moved to Hillside where they raised their three children: Harvey, Marcy and Susan. Pearl retired from teaching in order to be at home with her children and once they were grown she re-entered the workforce as a bookkeeper in Albert’s accounting practice. Pearl and Albert traveled extensively in their younger years and saw much of the world; Pearl always said the U.S.A. was her favorite place of all! Pearl loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally and received the same love in return.

Pearl is survived by her son Harvey Rich, daughter Marcy Rich Pollack, son-in-law Marshall S. Pollack, MD, daughter Susan Rich Friedman, son-in-law Gary S. Friedman, MD, grandchildren Jared and Dana Pollack, Adam and Renee Pollack, Darrian Rich, Connor Rich, Sam Friedman and Leah Friedman; and great-grandchildren Jake Hudson Pollack and Emma Rose Pollack. She is also survived by her beloved cousin Hermine Abramson, nephews Howard Palan and Mark Rich, and nieces Cina Balot, Harlee Steinberg and Ellen Rich. Pearl was predeceased by her parents Esther (Schnittlich) and Hyman Cohen, sister Thelma Palan, husband Albert Rich, and most recently her beloved grandson Manny Friedman.

Funeral services will be held graveside at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin on Friday December 4 at 12:30. Shiva will take place through Sunday evening at the home of Susan and Gary Friedman, 11 Glenbrook Court, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Donations in Pearl’s memory may be made to the Manny L. Friedman Foundation (same address as the shiva location).
