

She grew up in Washington Heights section of Manhattan and lived in East Brunswick for forty years before moving to Encore in Monroe Township. Rita was a graduate of George Washington High School and from the NYU School of Education. She began her career as a speechwriter for a Fortune 500 company in New York City. Rita, was a vibrant teacher in the East Brunswick school District for 30 years. She also won the Golden Apple Teacher Special Recognition Award in 1979, and received the Middlesex County Teacher of the Year Award. Her proudest accomplishment was promoting an appetite for learning in her students and watching them grow emotionally and intellectually. Surviving are her four children, Steven, Shari-Lee, Marsi, and Brian, ten grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Samuel “Skip” Rummel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, an organization dear to Rita’s heart.
Private Services were held under the direction of Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan.
