Roslyn Davis Obolsky passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023. Born on February 24, 1933, to David and Leah Davis, “Roz” grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn College until she met and married the love of her life, Sandy Obolsky. They lived in Jersey City, NJ before settling in Iselin, where they raised their family. Once her children started school, Roz went to work for Atlantic Tire and Supply in Avenel where she was a bookkeeper for 30+ years.
Roz was an avid reader, which led to a spirit of wanderlust that took Sandy and her to many places around the world, accompanied by friends and family throughout their 66-year marriage. She had a joyous and playful spirit and a fondness for games, particularly her beloved Mah Jong, which she played for many years with her friends. In more recent years, she enjoyed “fierce” competitions in wordle with her children and grandchildren, nearly every morning.
In retirement, she found a love for tennis, golf and the stage. She performed in many productions with the theater group and chorus at Four Seasons in Lakewood. Her love for reading developed into a love for writing that produced a regular column in the Four Seasons Times entitled “Roz’s Ramblings.” Above all of her hobbies and activities, she was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love was infinite and will continue on in the hearts of those lucky enough to receive it.
Surviving are her son Leonard and his wife Janice and children Benjamin and Hannah, daughter Lisa, Sister Gladys Halper, brother-in-law Spencer, nephew Matthew and niece Leah Meiterman, as well as a vast extended family, both by blood and chosen.
A celebration of a long happy life will take place graveside on Thursday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m. at King Solomon Memorial Park, Clifton, NJ.
The family will open their home in Lakewood, NJ for a traditional Jewish shiva Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening.
