Sherry was born on January 13, 1950, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Morris and Beatrice (née Kleppel) Bucholtz. She lived in Valley Stream, NY, for a short time before moving at a young age to East Meadow, NY, where she was raised. After graduating from East Meadow High School, she attended Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Science from the School of Education. She then lived briefly in Washington, D.C.— where she met her husband, Stephen — before moving to Manalapan, NJ in 1976.
Sherry was a lifelong educator who taught English as a Second Language for many years before becoming a program supervisor at the local and state level. She earned her Master of Arts in Instruction and Curriculum from Kean College of New Jersey in 1989.
Sherry had a passion for life and treasured time spent with family and friends. She loved playing and watching tennis, going to the beach, attending plays and musicals, and enjoying book club with her friends. She took great pride in becoming a certified scuba diver and was an active member of the American Association of University Women. She also co-authored the book ESL Beginners and was directly responsible for scores of children and adults learning English as a second language.
Sherry was a founding member of Temple Beth Shalom in Manalapan, a place that played an important role in her life.
Throughout numerous health challenges, Sherry always exemplified strength and determination, never letting them define her.
She firmly believed you must always celebrate good occasions and looked forward to birthdays, holidays, and the milestones of those she loved.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Stephen; her children, Scott of Freehold, and Jonathan and his wife Melissa of Westfield; her brothers, Harvey Bucholtz and his wife Joan, and Roy Bucholtz and his wife Cheryl Harlan; and her deeply cherished grandchildren, Liev and Zak Boguchwal.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, at 11 a.m. at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, NJ.
