Mrs. Martin graduated from Kean College. For many years, she was a beloved second grade teacher in the South Plainfield school district, and a lifelong community volunteer who dedicated her time to childhood education, the protection of endangered elephants, and many other local and national causes.
For nearly 50 years, she was married to Harlan Martin, with whom she lived in Westfield for 34 years before moving to Manalapan. He preceded her in death in October 2016.
She was the devoted mother of her son Ross Martin and his wife Jordana of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY; and daughter Rachel Blumberg and her husband Scott of Manalapan, NJ; the younger sister of Robert Kessler and his wife Debbie of Foster City, CA, brother Michael Kessler and his wife Bonnie of North Caldwell, NJ; brother David Kessler and his wife Sharon of New Providence, NJ; and the beloved “Grammy” of Dashiell and Theodore Martin and Jacob and Dara Blumberg.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Temple Shaari Emeth, 400 Craig Road, Manalapan, NJ 07726 followed by a committal service at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ 08830.
The Period of Mourning will be observed at the late residence as follows: Sunday following the burial until 9:00 PM, Monday and Tuesday from 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Minyan Service at 7pm.
