I grew up with Warren's son, Scott, and he was always a great guy and treated me well.  Wish I got to know him even more over the years!

It has been a week since I learned of the passing of a bigger than life figure.  I knew the day was imminent but I still hoped and prayed that Warren would find another miracle.  Sadly it was not to be.  When I learned the news I could not catch my breath and my heart was so very heavy.  This man was so many things to so many people.  It did not seem conceivable that he [my BFF] was no longer here.     
I met Warren nearly twenty years ago.  I watched in utter amazement and awe the fight he gave this awful disease known as cancer. In my lifetime I never witnessed anyone with such strength, courage and determination.  In my heart I knew there were times he was uncertain and even a little scared.  But never did he show it.  He was so amazing.  He maintained a normal life in every possible way. An onlooker would never guess this man was fighting the battle of his life. He never faltered.  I truly admired him.   
                                  Warren was many things to many people however his priority in life was family.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  Family was the utmost important part of his life.  But in the professional part of his life, Warren was the most dedicated and conscientious supervisor to oversee a project. He was an integral part of so many various projects throughout the many years.  One thing was for certain and that was Warren would always get the job done! 
                            I witnessed the sorrow and grief of so many whose lives he touched.  And I listened to the many stories and memories people wanted to share.  Warren would be so very happy to know how much he impacted upon so many throughout his life.  I find solace and comfort in the fact he can now rest in peace free from pain and discomfort. But life will not be the same.  Life will forever be different without Warren Weintraub.  I will miss his laugh, his sense of humor and the sound of his voice. I miss him so very much.  But I am eternally grateful for all the many years we shared. He shall always remain in my heart as my "BFF".

For over a decade, I spent many hours with Warren while he was supervising our surveys. During that time, I realized that one of his most striking traits was a subtle humbleness that would reveal his decency through his actions. During difficult circumstances, Warren could always be relied on to straighten things out and make problems go away; he got me out of many jams. But he did it quietly, without even wanting -- or even accepting -- a "thank you". I can only imagine how many behind-the-scenes things he did that I will never learn about. His motive was to selflessly do what's right, without the desire for recognition.

Warren had a talent for creating a relaxed environment. What a good-natured person. No topic, no conversation point, no misspoken words -- not even his own health -- could change his characteristic sense of humor. It could take a while to "get" that sense of humor, but it was worth it. It was one of the things that made him unique and such a pleasure to be with. 

Most of all, Warren had a genuinely likable quality that's very hard (at least for me) to put into words, but I think it was something that everyone could feel. It led to me occasionally thinking things like "Only Warren could get away with saying THAT", but it was true. It was impossible to not like him. 

There will never be another Warren Weintraub; I consider myself lucky that I had the good fortune to be able to share many moments with him.
