
Athena Pantelis, 93, of Manchester died September 23, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born in Manchester on August 11, 1920, the daughter of George and Alexandra (Papajohn) Skalomenos and had lived in Manchester most of her life. She had also been a resident of Loudon NH.
Educated in the local school system, she was a graduate of Manchester Central High School. She had been employed by Waumbec Mills and later served as shipping supervisor at RCL Electronics until her retirement in 1982.
Athena was the widow of Arthur Pantelis, who died in May 1998.
She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Anagennesis Ladies Society.
She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower beds and knitting.
Family members include two daughters, Ellen Goupil and her husband Roger of Manchester and Pamela Ahlquist also of Manchester; three grandchildren, Michael Ahlquist, Arthur Ahlquist and Karen Root and her husband David; four great grandchildren, Shannon Ranck, Alecea Ahlquist, Michael Ahlquist and Nicholas Root; a great, great grandchild, John Ruddick as well as several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour was held on Friday from 10 to 11 AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St. A funeral service followed immediately afterwards at 11 AM. Rev. Andrew Mahalares officiated. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind, 25 Walker St., Concord, NH 03301 or a charity of one’s choice.
