

Col. Edward J. LaMontagne, Sr., USMC (Ret.), 85 of Manchester, died June 3, 2013 at the Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 30, 1928 in Pembroke the son of Hector and Alzema (Thibodeau) LaMontagne. He was educated in the local system.
He was a career Marine serving during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War before retiring in 1975 with 26 years of service. He received many commendations including the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Citation and the Legion of Merit Medal.
He was married in 1955 to Barbara Healy, a true military wife, and together they traveled extensively throughout the world serving in such countries as Germany, Greece, Spain and Cuba. Ed was a deeply religious man and had a deep devotion to God, his family and his country.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara LaMontagne in 2011 and by his sons Edward LaMontagne Jr. and Thomas LaMontagne.
Family members include his three grandchildren Edward LaMontagne III, Joseph LaMontagne and Julia LaMontagne all of Manchester and his daughters-in-law Dena Vestal of Manchester and Debra LaMontagne of Revere, MA as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Monday June 10 at 11AM in Mt. Carmel Nursing Home Chapel. Inurnment with military honors followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford. The McHugh Funeral Home assisted the family.
