Frances Louise Barrett
September 4, 1950 – March 13, 2023

IN THE CARE OF
McHugh Funeral Home
With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Barrett, Fluck, Lang, Rousseau and Paul families announce the sudden passing of our kind, brave, caring and unimaginably generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Frances Louise Barrett (Lang) on March 13, 2023.
Born in Manchester, NH on September 4th, 1950, to the late Howard and M. Virginia (Broderick) Lang and was the second of five children. A New Hampshire native, Fran graduated from the Manchester school system. After graduation, she started working for the Department of Health and a Human Services. While working full time she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at New Hampshire College. After getting her degree, she went back and served her community for the next 33 years as a social worker.
She grew up in a large and loving family where there was always a relative in sight. She and her family spent most of their summers at their family camp on Suncook Lake in Barnstead, NH. There they created countless unforgettable happy memories. It was also there she was known for her amazing water skiing skills(taking off from land in jeans and coming back barely wet), her love for card games with her family, especially poker and tending some of the best fires ever had while singing Jimmy Buffett with her god son and friend Patrick Broderick. Other passions of Fran’s were relaxing on the beach and reading. The fastest reader we knew, would always have a good book in her hand. Fran also had a love for all people and things. She was the most accepting and empathetic person in the world which is a reason everyone was thrilled for her when her ultimate dream came true in 2006 and she purchased a house in the town she wanted to call home, Barnstead.
Fran’s family would joke that she had 9 lives. She survived a horrific motorcycle accident, multiple car crashes and two bouts of lung cancer but never once did a smile leave her face.
Fran’s true love and most prized possessions were her children Ryan and Erin, and her 5 beautiful grandchildren (Maeve, Liam, Annie, Barrett & Sloane). She spent years at sports fields for both of the above and genuinely enjoyed every minute. She also spent many hours watching her grandchildren and would drop anything and everything for them. They were truly her world.
Frances is survived by her son Ryan Barrett and his longtime partner Toni Flynn of Goffstown, her daughter Erin and very special son-in law Matthew Fluck of Manchester; brothers Howie and his wife Anna, and Broderick Lang and his wife Colleen; sisters Carol Rousseau and her husband Michael, Kathleen Paul and her husband Michael; grandchildren Maeve and Annie Barrett and Liam, Barrett and Sloane Fluck, a very special nephew Matthew Rousseau. Also close to her heart were her step-children Cheryl Acker, Debbie Cutulle and Robert Barrett and many other family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Robert Barrett.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to the American Red Cross in memory of Fran.
Calling hours for Fran will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McHugh Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 283 Hanover St, Manchester, New Hampshire 03104, followed by a funeral service at 6:30 PM.
