Harriet J. Clear, 89, of Manchester, died October 17, 2018 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Manchester on March 13, 1929 the daughter of Nicholas and Annie (Stewart) Kafejelis and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. She was educated in the Manchester school system and was a graduate of Manchester West High School Class of 1947.
Following her graduation, she attended nursing school and was employed in the office at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic for many years. She was married to the love of her life, John Clear, in 1949 an together they shared 32 wonderful years of life, laughter and love. She enjoyed bowling and her quiet times spent with a good book, playing cards with the “girls”, Thursday night Scrabble with Monique and above all else her time spent with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband John Clear in 1981, by her brother Nicholas S. Kafejelis in 1997 and her granddaughter Kristen Staples.
Members of her family include her daughter Donna Staples of Goffstown, her son John Clear of New Boston, her grandchildren Heather Lavoie, Shane Staples and Monique Staples, her great-grandchildren Sophia and Nolan, her sister-in-law Bonnie Kafejelis of Bedford and her nieces and nephews Nick, Lisa, Tim and Chris as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Wednesday October 24 from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday October 25 at 10 am at St. Pius X Church 575 Candia Rd. in Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Harriet’s name be made to Liberty House 75 West Baker St. Manchester, NH 03103.
