Helen M. Economou, 95, of Manchester, died January 1, 2018 at the Hanover Hill Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Manchester on July 23, 1922 the daughter of Nicholas and Kaliope (Arnoutis) Mourtsakis and was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central. She was also a graduate of Hesser Business College.
She was employed as an administrative assistant at the Currier Gallery of Art and also at the law firm of McLane, Graf & Raulerson. Family was of the utmost importance to Helen and she enjoyed getting together with her family and many friends. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother daughter, sister and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years George N. Economou in 2001 and by her brother Harry Mourtsakis.
Members of her family include her son Nicholas Economou and his wife Donna of Lexington, MA and her daughter Marilyn Riley and her husband William of Newton, MA and her three grandchildren Nicholas, Michael and William as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Monday January 8 from 11 am to noon at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral 650 Hanover St. in Manchester followed by a Funeral Service at noon. Entombment followed in Pine Grove Cemetery mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations in Helen’s name be made to the church. The McHugh Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with her care.
