

John Philbert, Sr. passed away at Elliot Hospital on April 19, 2014. He was born in Manchester on June 5, 1918 to Louis and Mabel (Manahan) Philbert. He was the widower of Gladys (Ciechon) who died on January 3, 1997, after 54 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his sister Mabel St. Jean, and brothers George and Charley.
He grew up in Manchester, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, worked at Johnson Shoe, and retired in 1982 from a job at City Hall. He loved Hampton Beach, to be outside, garden, fish, and take trips to Atlantic City with his wife. But most of all he adored being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his devoted son, John and his wife Kathleen; grandchildren Lara, Charles and his wife Jennifer, Caroline Curtis and her husband Brian, and Adam; and great-grandsons Avery, Jonathan, and Jeremy. He will also be missed by his many friends at Easter Seals Atrium, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visiting hours were held at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover Street, Manchester on Wednesday, April 23rd from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was held on April 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig's Church, 180 Orange Street, Manchester, followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to the Atrium at Easter Seals Adult Day Services, 555 Auburn Street, Manchester, NH 03103.
