She was born on March 21, 1918, in Laconia, NH, the daughter of Athanase and Celina (Lafreniere) Hamel. She lived most of her life in Manchester and was a self-employed Realtor for many years. Prior to her retirement in 1984, she was employed as an office clerk by H-O Dental Laboratory.
Pauline was a parishioner of Sacred Heart parish. She served as a Senior Companion Volunteer for five years and was a retreatant of the Oblate Retreat House in Hudson for 25 years. She was the widow of Henry J. Gravel Sr. who died in 1960.
Family members include two daughters, Sr. Lucille P. Gravel, CSC of Manchester and Diane Ducas and her husband Norman of Londonderry; three sons, Dr. Henry J. Gravel Jr. and his wife Alice of Braintree, MA, Roger P. Gravel and his wife Diana of Manchester and Roland M. Gravel and his wife Margaret of Burke, VA; eight grandchildren, Thomas Gravel, Daniel Gravel, Timothy Gravel, Peter Ducas, Maria Grzyb, Dominique Martin, Marc Gravel and Sarah Gravel; four great grandchildren, Andrew Grzyb, Adela Grzyb, James Ducas and Grace Gravel; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 11 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 265 South Main St. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
