Walter J. Welch, 79, of Manchester, died August 22, 2016 at the Maple Leaf Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Manchester on September 8, 1936 the son of William D. Welch, Sr. and Nora (Sheehan) Welch and was a lifelong member of the Queen City, was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Bishop Bradley High School Class of 1955.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army National Guard serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Ventures Mental Health Services and was known as a big man with a big heart who loved helping others. He enjoyed his activities with friends but he also cherished his quiet time spent listening to music or watching his favorite television program. He will be missed by all who knew him but will be remembered as a loving and devoted brother, uncle and friend.
He was predeceased by his brother William Welch and by his sister Margaret Welch.
Members of his family include his niece Susan Welch-Paris and her husband Raymond of Springfield, VA, his six nephews William J. Welch Jr. of Dover, James Welch and his wife Rachel of Hooksett, John F. Welch of Hampton, Donald D. Welch of Manchester, Daniel S. Welch of Jupiter, FL and David E. Welch of Weare as well as several cousins and many friends.
Visitation was held on Friday August 26 from 9 to 9:30 am at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am in St. Joseph Cathedral Chapel 145 Lowell St. Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford.
