Catherine Butterworth

Catherine M. Butterworth, 81 of Whiting passed away early in the afternoon on Sunday, October 17th, 2021, due to natural causes. Cathy was born February 12, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania and was the second of four children, daughter to Leo and Catherine Witczak. She was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Chestnut Street, Lakehurst. Catherine graduated from Wilkes-Barre high school in 1958 and went on to earn more than 40 credit hours at the University of Texas, Monmouth College and Ocean County College. She entered the workforce as a Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President at Burlington Industries where she was in charge of product operations and cost accounting. She then went on to become Executive Vice President for Alps Supply Company, where she was instrumental in implementing policy to all executives and employees across four stores and warehouses. Finally in retirement, she went on to serve as a medical assistant for the state of New Jersey, account manager for AWG Appliance Services of Freehold, and Trustee for Crestwood Village II of Whiting. In her down time, Cathy enjoyed reading, gardening, and numerous types of crafts throughout her life. There was nothing she could not do or fix, and she was always there for others. A leader in her community, Cathy was best known, not only as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, but as the “Alps Appliance Parts Lady,” where she was the face of the company and appliance repair community for 21 years, helping thousands of people mend and repair countless appliances. Her patience and commitment to helping others lasted a lifetime. Catherine is preceded by her husband, Jack and her son, Andrew. She is survived by her brothers Leonard and wife, Diane Witczak, Raymond and wife, Catherine Witczak; her daughter Michelle and Edward Unger, her two grandchildren, Christopher and Rianna Vanchure, and by her nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews all of whom she loved and cherished so very dearly. Catherine will be laid to rest with her husband Jack at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, New Jersey. A Memorial is planned at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Manchester Township, 3010 Ridgeway Rd. on Thursday, October 21st between the hours of 3:00pm and 6:00pm.
