Born on May 11, 1952, in Chieti, Italy, Edward was the adopted son of Harry Edward Ripoli and Anna Marie Cooney-Ripoli. He immigrated to the United States in 1959 and was raised in Marlton, New Jersey.
Edward graduated from Holy Cross High School in Delran, New Jersey, in 1970. He went on to attend Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice as a member of the Class of 1975.
Long before beginning his law enforcement career, Edward spent his summers as a lifeguard in Ship Bottom, a role that reflected his lifelong love of the water and the outdoors. Long Beach Island was more than a place he lived—it was where he felt most at home. Whether on the beach, near the bay, or simply enjoying the outdoors, being on the water brought him happiness and peace throughout his life.
Edward proudly served the Borough of Ship Bottom as a member of the Ship Bottom Police Department from 1978 until his retirement in 2005, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect of his fellow officers and community through his integrity, dedication, and commitment to public service.
On August 5, 1993, Edward married the love of his life, Frances Ripoli. Together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and love. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to Nicole Ripoli and Ryan Ripoli, father-in-law to Courtney Doscher, and a loving grandfather to Devon and Hudson.
Retirement was never a time of rest for Edward. Known for his strong work ethic and endless energy, he always found ways to stay busy. After retiring from the police department, he worked as a cook at Southern Regional High School, performed landscaping work, delivered newspapers, and took on whatever job kept him active and engaged. He was never one to sit still and always believed in the value of hard work.
Edward will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, strong work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man who worked hard, cared deeply, and always put those he loved first. His sense of duty, dedication to his community, and love for Long Beach Island will remain lasting memories for all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; his daughter, Nicole Ripoli; his son, Ryan Ripoli, and daughter-in-law, Courtney Doscher; his siblings, Chris Ripoli, Kim Ripoli, and Joan (Ripoli) Mestichelli; and his beloved grandchildren, Devon and Hudson.
A celebration of Edward's life will be held on July 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
