George lived in, NY, PA, NJ, NC, SC and back to NJ. Graduated from Roselle Park High School, NJ in 1950. He majored in SPORTS. (Lol) Team Captain of the Baseball Team for 4 years; An avid wrestler for 4 years and became New Jersey State Champion in 1950, 123 lbs. Won a scholarship but decided to join the Navy, guess what, bad choice. He played baseball at Boca Chica Field, Key West, Florida so he was happy. He was assigned to the USS BLAIR 147 and traveled overseas.
George and Florence met in 1973 and were married in 8/17/1973, lived in Linden, NJ-joined the Roselle Park United Methodist Church and there they met Pastor Anthony Godlefeski, a very dear friend since 1974. He is officiating this Ceremony. George was very interested in studying the bible and joined many Bible Studies that is when he decided his favorite scripture was ‘AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD’ and that is when we started serving: Usher/Greeter, Trustee, Outreach Committee and Food Pantries. (1974-1984) Then moved to Linden and joined Linden UMC, and continued our service there, along with a big challenge: hosting 14 homeless people at Union UMC for one full week, after work every day, cooked their supper, stayed overnight and got them ready to start their day with breakfast, fixing lunches so they could go on the bus to the YM/WCA to get baths and go looking for apartments and work, after they left, we went home and got ready for our regular jobs. In 1996, we were getting ready to retire and chose North Carolina so off we went taking Mom, settled in Calabash, NC, a beautiful bit of paradise and wonderful weather. Joined Seaside UMC and started Meals-On-Wheels for over 10 years along with continuing with visiting shut-ins, ushering and joined a Prayer Warriors group, feeding the hungry once a week in Myrtle Beach and yearly Thanksgiving meal to anyone in need. Lived there 20 years and decided to move to a CCRC-United Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg, SC-retirement home after Mom went to be with the Lord. Enjoyed 3 years and 5 months. Met many Ministers, wives and lots of friendly people. Were super active with all activities and loved it. Things went haywire and with prayerful consideration decided to move back to New Jersey December 2019.
George and Florence did lots of traveling, National Parks, Alaska, Hawaii, all of Eastern US, most of the West Coast and many, many cruises. We had a wonderful marriage of 47 years. Loved life and are looking forward to reuniting with all their loved ones.
George had a jovial disposition, fun loving, thought I was too serious and would make me laugh plenty, he was always cutting up with his mother and anyone that wanted to have fun. He was kind, generous, and grateful and believed in Serving and Obeying the greatest Commandment: LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU. He also believed in “FEED MY SHEEP”.
I feel that when he arrived at the pearly gates he was greeted with: Well, Done, Good and Faithful Servant.
TO MY HUSBAND IN HEAVEN: I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with you. And then realized… You spent the rest of your life with me. I smile because I know you loved me till the day you went away. And will keep loving me… Till the day we’re together again.
Missing you George, no words can express. Love you forever, your wife:
