Hugh attended Berkeley Township school system and graduated from Central Regional High School. He started working at the age of eighteen. He retired in January 2022 after working at Mr. Tire formally known as Good Year as a Master Mechanic for 30+ years. In Hugh's younger years, he was a DJ known as StuFunk and you could find him at the local club in Lakewood NJ. In the early 80s, Hugh found something he loved more than cars and music. Having a family. Hugh thought being a father and a husband was the best gift until he became a grandfather. He wore that title with pride.
Hugh was the first Deacon of Harmony Ministries where he held that title for 30+ years. During those years Hugh held other titles such as Head of the Music Department and Uncle Hugh to the youth of the church. When Hugh had downtime, he enjoyed sports. He was a huge football fan of the New York Giants. He also enjoyed watching baseball. The Yankees and Mets were the teams that always caught his attention.
Hugh was predeceased by his wife Voncella Stewart in 2021, his brother Alfonso Stewart in 2010, his mother Wilhelmina Stewart in 2010, and his father Hugh F. Stewart Sr. in 2003.
Hugh is Survived by his daughter Nickelle Whitfield, grandchildren Tameka Whitfield, Larnie Whitfield Jr. 4-legged granddaughter Angel the cat, brothers Andrew Stewart Sr., Roland Stewart Sr. all of Toms River, Sister Bertha Davis of Beachwood, Aunt Virginia Williams of Virginia, Brother-in-law Ralph Lester, James Lester of Lakewood NJ, John Lester of Pennsylvania, Host of nephews and nieces and Great nephews and nieces.
A funeral service for Hugh will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 12 to 1 pm, at Harmony Ministries, 401 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst, NJ 08733.
