James Westgate

A Devoted Father a Poppi a Grandfather a GGpa a Father in law & Uncle to many nieces and nephews . James will be remembered with gratitude and respect, and his legacy of service, decency, and selfless love will continue to live on in all who were fortunate to know him.

James Westgate passed away peacefully with his loving wife beside his side on August 8, 2026 , at the age of 87 James was born along with his twin brother John, in their home on 207 Targee Street Staten Island NY on June 18, 1939... James resided with his sister Ann Marie on Staten Island NY until he met Lorraine he eventually moved to Brooklyn where they got married until 1981 they eventually relocated back to Staten Island.. then moved to New

Jersey and have been residing at the Renaissance in Manchester NJ for the last 13 years.

James worked as Police Officer for the City of New York, from February 8, 1968 and retired July 31, 1982. He was also a US Army Veteran, and served his country, honorably, during the Vietnam War Era. James was very gifted in woodworking and wood crafting, and was a member of the Renaissance Woodshop. James loved Christmas Eve, it was his favorite holiday and he was featured in the Staten Island Advance three times, for his impressive Christmas decorations. He also enjoyed playing cards and was always quick with one of his Westgate sayings or fingers (IYKYK). His signature saying was "That's my story and I'm sticking to it..."

James was predeceased by his daughter, Jessica Yaccarino and his twin brother, John, who just passed away this past June 20, 2026, as well as his siblings, Pete, Ann Marie, Robert and Margaret.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Lorraine B. Westgate, his sister, Rita Barnes and his brother, Tommy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Saint Teresa Church, 1632 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10314, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 10:45 am.
