John W., 92, passed away onFebruary 26, 2012. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he lived in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and New York, before moving to Manchester, NJ in 2002. During his life he worked as a machinist and carpenter, and served in the Army during WWII in the Western Europe Campaign, Battle of Normandy, France; St Lo, Cherbourg and Crossing of Seine River.
He was decorated with Two Bronze Stars and the EAME Ribbon.
John's wife, Barbara, predeceased him in 2008. He is survived by: two daughters, Barbara Check Rios of Nevada and her husband, Rudy Rios, Joan Check of Brick, NJ and her husband, Paul Anthony; and, two grandchildren, Joseph Benkovic of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, and Matthew Benkovic, of Brick, NJ. Private services were held under direction of Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Manchester, NJ.
