John James Langenbacher; 78 of Manchester, NJ, died Saturday December 12, 2020 in Jersey Shore Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in the Bronx, NY. He moved to Menlo Park Terrace as a teenager and lived with his mother (Amelia Sussmilch Gerardi) and her husband (Angelo Gerardi).
John moved to the Jersey Shore on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend of 1969 and enjoyed the beauty of Ocean County.
John served on the carriers USS ESSEX and the USS SARATOGA in the United States Navy from: 1960 to 1963. He then joined the Naval Reserves until 1966, with an honorable discharge.
Among his many talents were his woodworking abilities and if he made something for you, you knew you were special to him. He also loved fishing, traveling with his wife and his famous NY Yankees baseball team. In 1999 he was especially excited because his nephew Dan and his wife Kathy- witnessed David Cone pitch his perfect game at the original Yankee Stadium. John was also a car enthusiast and in his younger days, he raced his amazing 1965 Nausau Blue GTO.
John was also a Lionel Toy Train enthusiast.
John retired after 27 years working as the midnight shift manager at the Wall Township Sunoco Service Station on the Garden State Parkway. He loved his job and all of the people he could help through the years there. He received many commendation letters of gratitude and thanks from his customers. He even was able to get LT’s (NY Giants) autograph and chatted several times with Jerry Stiller as he returned from Atlantic City.
Surviving are his beloved wife Kathleen (Kathy-BW) Goresh Langenbacher, his sister Donna Gerardi McCray and her husband Elber, brother in law Andy Goresh and his wife Sharon, his niece Veronica Lynne Goresh Snyder and her husband Christopher and their daughter Evangeline (Eva) and his nephew Daniel Goresh (Captain of the East Dover Fire Co. # 4). John was predeceased by his father John G. Langenbacher, his mother Amelia and her husband Angelo, and his loving Aunt Marie and her husband Bill.
A Memorial Celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday August 7, 2021, at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759, from 10-11:30 am, with a Memorial Funeral Mass to follow at Saint Johns' RC Church , 619 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst, NJ 08733.
