

Alvenia was born March 9, 1932 in Burk County, NC, to the late Benjamin Tillman Francis and Mary Corpening Francis.
Alvenia left North Carolina in her pre-teen years and moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey with her sister Sylvia Harbison. She attended and graduated from New Brunswick High School in June of 1950.
Shortly after, she met and married Nicholas James Tate Jr. From that union, two children were born: Patricia and Lawrence.
Alvenia accepted the Lord at Calvary Holiness Church, of Plainfield, New Jersey, where the Pastor was Mother Brown.
In 1961 Alvenia became the First Lady at Second Baptist Church in Keyport, New Jersey, where her husband Nicholas J. Tate was Pastor.
Alvenia’s achievements; In July 1958 she graduated from New Brunswick High School and Prep School.
In 1963-1964 she attended Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
Alvenia had a number of jobs; she worked at Westinghouse Manufacturing, Prudential Insurance Financial Services as an Office Assistant; Central Jersey Bank, E.A.I. Electronics and A.E.L. Electronics.
While working at A.E.L. she met Lawrence Oliver Sr. and on November 27th 1987, they were married.
Alvenia filled her life with primarily living for the Lord and caring for her family. Alvenia’s hobbies included reading, exercising and house plants.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Oilver Sr., sisters Sylvia Harbison, Irene Barnet, Pauline Corpening, Evelyn Wright and Helen Pharms. Her brothers Ervin, Joseph, Harry, James and Benjamin Francis Jr.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister Christine Michaux, daughter Patricia Worthington and son-in-law William Worthington, son Lawrence Tate and daughter-in-law- Esmin Tate. Stepchildren Saundra, Lawrence Jr., Jackie, Gregory, Renee and Stevie. Grandchildren Edward Shaw Jr., Michael Shaw, Aaron Tate and David Tate. Great grandchildren Liam Tate, Michael Shaw, Jaxon Tate and Logan Tate and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sat. Sept. 26, 2015, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Rd, Manchester, NJ 08759, from 10-11 am with a service to celebrate Alvenia's life to start at 11 am. Cremation
