

Maureen Winifred Horgan, age 93, of Wall Township, New Jersey passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025. Maureen was born in Cambridge,MA. She and her family moved to The Bronx, NY, where Maureen grew up and remained a resident of, up until this past July. She received her BA from Long Island University and MLS (Masters in Library Services) from Fordham University. Maureen enjoyed a robust career with the Daily News and the New York Times where she met many interesting and famous people; she abhorred gossip. She was an avid supporter of the NY Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, the New York Library, The MET, and many other New York cultural institutions. An avid Catholic, Maureen was active in her church, St. Barnabas, The Bronx, and volunteered for several organizations, including Meals On Wheels. Maureen loved the outdoors, particularly anywhere near water. In her younger years, Maureen was a world traveler, with a special affinity for visits to her many relatives in Limerick and Kerry counties, Ireland.
Maureen was predeceased by her parents Ned and Winnie Horgan, her sister Joan Horgan, her brother Edward Horgan, and her nephew Eddie Horgan. She is survived by her three nieces, Louise Horgan, JeanMarie Horgan, and Sue Anne Romeo, and her nephew, Mark Horgan, and many grand nieces (girls rule). She was our hero; independent and opinionated to the end; her sense of humour intact and her faith in God unfailing.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon, on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at St. Barnabas in The Bronx, with a repast to follow at The Rambling House on Katonah Avenue, The Bronx.
