Muriel met the love of her life, John "Jack" Fields, at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC and married him in 1947. They both enjoyed dancing to swing music. The couple first settled down in River Edge, NJ, then relocated to Concord, Mass and later moved to Norwood, NJ. It was there that Muriel raised her two children, Jeffrey and Suzanne.
She attended the Katherine Gibbs School for secretarial training, completing the one-year course in six months. Believing that education was paramount, Muriel, at the age of 40, attended Northeastern University and later obtained her bachelor's degree in English from St. Thomas Aquinas College. She continued her education, attending Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she earned her master's degree. Muriel worked for Chrysler Corp. in NYC, then for Hansome Energy Corp. in New Jersey, before accepting a teaching job at The Holy Angels School in Demarest, NJ. She taught English there for many years, eventually retiring from the profession.
Muriel and her husband moved to Manchester Township in 1984. It is here that she remained until her passing. She enjoyed and loved gardening, but her true passion was playing duplicate bridge. Muriel was a Life Master in Bridge.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, John "Jack", and her grandson, Matthew Sunshine. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Fields and his wife, Eileen, her daughter, Dr. Suzanne Fields, MD, and her husband, Jeffrey Sunshine, and her grandchildren, Jennifer Sunshine, Kevin Fields, and Katie Fields. Muriel will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Cremation will be held privately. A Mass of Christian Burial for Muriel will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St, Lakehurst, NJ 08733, on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:40 am.
