Born in Brooklyn, New York, Walter was a huge Brooklyn Dodgers and Mets fan and grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens. While serving in the Army, he further developed his computer skills and went on to have a long career as a Computer Programmer at J.M.Huber in Edison, New Jersey.
Walter and Marge settled in East Brunswick in 1968 where they raised their family until they moved to Renaissance in Manchester in 2004. Walter enjoyed playing the penny slots in Atlantic City and Parx Casino, his coin collections, his replica baseball stadiums and dinners at Chinese buffets. Walter was lovingly known by many as Pop, Gapper, Big Dog Diesel and also had his own language known as “Walterisms”. Walter and Marge were lucky enough to travel the world with their close friends, Rolly and Mary. What Walter loved more than anything was spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren.
Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Margaret “Marge” Stemmler. He is survived by his children, John, Paul, and Gail (he always said “these 2 are twins” lol), his son-in-law Mike, his daughter-in-law Kerianne, and his grandchildren, Rebecca, Bridget and Kevin, who were the light of his life.
The Stemmler family would like to invite everyone to attend a memorial mass for Walter, to celebrate and honor a life full of love and kindness, on Thursday, November 6th, 2025, 10:30AM, at the Church of Saint Monica, 679 W. Veterans Highway, Jackson, NJ, 08527. A luncheon will follow, and all are welcome to attend. Please let us know if you can attend. If you are unable to attend, please know your continued love and support are appreciated.
