

Mr. VanSchoick was born and raised in Freehold Boro. As a boy he worked on his family farm in Freehold. As a young adult he worked at the A&M Karagheusian Rug Mill. He was a volunteer in the Freehold Fire Department keeping up a long family tradition. He was drafted into the Army and served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Freehold American Legion Post 54 for over 30 years.
After the war in 1954 he married his long time sweetheart Rosaria (Sadie) Vasapoli and moved to Lakewood, New Jersey where they started to raise their family. He was the co-owner of the Parkway Liquors Bar also known as the Glue Pot Bar and Grill.
While residing in Lakewood he was a charter member of the Lakewood Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company from 1954 to 1967 gaining his exempt status. He fought such famous fires in Lakewood such as the Laurel in the Pines Hotel and the Willis Hotel.
Mr. VanSchoick moved to Brick Twp. in 1964 where he finished raising his family. After he sold Parkway Liquors in 1970 he became a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters of America UFCW Local 464 A. He had a successful career as a butcher working for several supermarket chains including the Davidson’s Food Town Chain and retired in 1993.
Mr. VanSchoick was a tireless worker who enjoyed working part time as a carpenter throughout his entire life. He converted a summer home in Pt. Pleasant Beach to a year round residence for himself and his wife where they resided in his retirement. He was always building something for one of his children or relatives. He was a dedicated family man who always put his wife and children first. He was also an avid New York Mets Fan and enjoyed many family trips to Shea Stadium to see his beloved Mets play baseball. He will be sorely missed by all his friends and family members.
Mr. VanSchoick was predeceased by his wife Rosaria (Sadie) in 1995. He is survived by his children William F. VanSchoick and his wife Dawn, of Lanoka Harbor, Rose Stuerze of Brick, Constance Nine and her husband Donald of Toms River, and Milissa Maples and her husband Richard of Sparks, NV, his sister Pat VanSant of Lakewood, sister in law Connie Scalia, his grandchildren, Steven Howard, Bradley Maples, Robert Effenberger, Jaqueline Zaraza, Samantha and Candace Stuerze, William R. and Nicholas VanSchoick, his great grandchildren Steven, Johnathan, Jilliana and Christopher Howard, Vincent Zaraza, and Micah and Myla Effenberger. He is also survived my many cherished nieces and nephews, especially Joseph Scalia, who was very close to William.
Visitation will be held at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759, on Monday June 25, 2012, from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am, on Tuesday June 26, 2012, at Saint Mary of the Lake RC Church, 43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Interment to follow at the Saint Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lakewood Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
