

Allen D. Neal, 91, of Mansfield, passed away early Sunday morning, May 27, 2018, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born June 15, 1926, in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Reuben and Elmina (Kelly) Neal.
Allen graduated from Mansfield Senior High School where he played the trumpet. At the age of 24, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving stateside during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Amvets Post #26, Moose Lodge, Eagles, Owls, and Liederkranz.
Allen retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a mail carrier for many years. He loved to travel, especially to the western United States and Europe. A friendly man, he was very kind to everyone he met.
Allen is survived by five nieces and nephews, Patricia (Roger) McDermott, Thomas Allen (Janice) Neal, Sharon Lauer, Jeanette Montgomery and Dwaine Brown; several great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Fred Falls. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Neal and Laura Nelson; step-sister, Juanita Collins; niece, Gail Dye; and nephew, Byron “Barney” Brown.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Allen’s caregivers at Conard House and Primrose Retirement Community.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
