Alma Faye Stanton, 82, of Shelby, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025. Born on December 11, 1942, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to Rodney and Lucindia (Worley) Wilson, Alma's life was defined by her deep love for her family, her tireless devotion to others, and her unshakable spirit.
Alma graduated from Loyall High School in 1960. She cherished her childhood memories. She loved her time growing up and often shared stories from her younger years. Her passion for life shone brightly during her youth, and she carried that light into everything she did.
After high school, Alma attended secretary school in Satellite Beach, Florida, where she began her career and even worked as an ambulance driver. It was there she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Stanton, a local police officer. They married and eventually relocated to Richland County, where she spent the next 45 years building a life centered around family, love, and community.
Alma’s life was built on her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her two children, Gavin (Michelle) Stanton and Jennifer (Dr. Greg Andros) Stanton, and a proud grandmother to her five grandchildren: Caroline, Gavin, Libby, Joseph, and Genevieve. Alma also cherished her time spent with her six siblings—her sister, Thelma Lee, and brothers, Gorman, Rodney, Elmer, Harold, and JB; and her niece Grace Ann Heston—and was deeply loved by them all.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Richard "Dick" Stanton, her parents, her sister, Thelma Lee, and her brothers, Gorman, Elmer, and JB.
Throughout her life, Alma was known for her selflessness and her commitment to giving back. She and her late husband were very involved with the Shriners Children’s Burn Victim program, where they dedicated countless hours volunteering to help those in need.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1 Children’s Plaza, 2 West, Dayton, OH 45404, https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/ohio, a cause that was close to Alma's heart.
Alma’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her unwavering love for her family, her giving spirit, and her humorous wisdom will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
