

Alta M. Maurer Martin Berger, 95, of Mansfield passed from this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 into the arms of her Savior. Alta was born on the farm in Loudonville to Albert and Della (Strang) Maurer on January 18, 1922. Alta graduated from the Nashville school system. She was a leader in the Adario Farmers Institute putting on special plays once a year.
Alta attended the Adario Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She married Ralph Martin on August 31, 1941, and they had three wonderful children: Steve (Betsy) Martin of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Palmisano of Savannah, OH, and Cheryl Simpson of Savannah, GA. During these years she worked as a superintendent of the school kitchen as well as working on the family farm.
In 1971, Alta met Larry Berger and they married on April 7, 1972. They were married for 44 years until Larry passed from this life on June 10, 2016. Alta retired from the F.E. Myers Pump Company. Alta and Larry enjoyed 35 years in Florida, first as snow birds, then moving there full time. While in Florida, they made many friends and enjoyed the dances and other get togethers at their condo complex. They returned to Mansfield in 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nellie (Neal) Franks, Florence (Fred) Nouse and one brother, Clovis (Aileen) Maurer. In addition to her children she leaves to cherish her memory several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a step daughter, Sharon Berger of Mansfield, OH; sisters-in-law, Loretta Parr, Mary Kramer, and Helen Stanton.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Padival and staff, Primrose Retirement Community and staff, OhioHealth Hospice and staff for their loving care.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service will follow at noon, officiated by Pastor Matthew Pond. Burial will take place at Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Northwest Ohio, 150 West South Boundary PBM #202, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
