

Born October 25, 1959 in Mansfield, Ohio he was the son of Lajos and Mary (Lakatos) Kovacs. He was a 1977 graduate of Malabar High School and a 1995 graduate of Columbus State Career Center with a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. He was active in the United States Military having served with the United States Marine Corp, the Army National Guard and the United States Army. He was very patriotic but was also extremely proud of his Hungarian heritage. He was employed as an Aircraft Mechanic for 34 years, working all over the United States and also in Germany and Japan. He was most recently employed by Sikorsky Global Helicopter in Pennsylvania. An avid fisherman and kayaker, his favorite place was his apartment located on the Susquehanna River. He made friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed especially by his good childhood friend, Karen Siegler.
He is survived by his parents, Lajos and Mary Kovacs; a daughter, Rikki (Brent) Kovacs; a granddaughter, Brianna Briggs; two sisters, Klara (Mark) King and Maria (David) Leu; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Hungary.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund.
