
Barbara L. Noble Malone passed away Tuesday morning, May 17, 2011 at Hospice House of North Central Ohio. Barbara was born January 13, 1933, in Burbank, Ohio, to Russell Bixler and Barbara Ellen Lewis Bixler. She moved to Ashland in 1957. Barbara was a 1950 graduate of Creston High School, and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, in 1959.
She taught elementary school for 39 years. Her teaching career began in Doylestown where she taught school for four years. Barbara then moved to Ashland and taught for the Ashland City Schools, where she taught 16 years at Taft Elementary and 19 years at Lincoln Elementary.
She will be deeply missed by her friends and two daughters, Nancy L. Noble, of Ashland and Jill R. Ashton, of Bucyrus.
Barbara was a member of American Association of University Women for 50 years, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Beta Sigma Phi. She was a life-member of Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member of the Ashland City Teachers Association. Barbara was also a member of the Ashland County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame, 1236 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, OH 44805; the Ashland City Teachers Association Scholarship Fund at the Ashland County Community Foundation, 300 College Avenue, Ashland, OH 44805; or Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
Friends will be received at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue from 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Delaine McGhee officiating. Private burial services will be at a later date in Burbank Cemetery.
