
Bayliss John "Bud" Strand, 84, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, December 02, 2008, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born July 14, 1924, in Rockford, IL, he was the son of Addison and Rose Victoria Larson Strand. He retired from the United States Navy in 1964, having served during World War II in the Mediterranean on various submarines including the Diodon. He was also a machine tool representative for Sun-Strand-Electrolux retiring in 1989 which gave him the opportunity to travel the world. He loved the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He was a very independent person – a tough guy.
Surviving are his wife, Marta Buxton Keller-Strand; two sons, Denis Mary Strand of Rockford, IL and Jeffrey Strand of Guam; four daughters, Barbara Rhoads of St. Charles, IL, JoAnne Ian Carter of Beaverton, OR, Jeri Steve Bontjes of Rockford, IL and Lori Greg Leftwich of Deltona, FL; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Marian Strand of Rockford, IL; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Moser; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Robert Gayle Keller; and a brother-in-law, Norman Moser.
There will be no calling hours or services at this time. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Missionary Society of the First Church of the Nazarene, Ashland, Ohio.
