
Bernard E. Shay, 83, of Mansfield died Thursday morning, April 10, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Mr. Shay was born December 24, 1919 in Hyde Park, Pennsylvania to Arthur & Willa Spillit Shay and lived in the Mansfield area most of his life. He retired from White Westinghouse in 1978. He was a member of Safe Harbor Church, Sons of Herman; American Legion Post #16 and AmVets Post #26. Mr. Shay was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Bernadine & Paul Griffey of Lucas, Becky & Herbert Karl of New Washington and Bonnie & Jeffery Mosley of Shelby; seven grandchildren and spouses, April & Brett Bishop, Shane & Susan Griffey, Chad & Tami Griffey, Michelle & Jeff Knapp, Brent & Anna Smith, Jeffery Mosley Jr. and Amanda Jane Mosley; five great-grandchildren, Heather Lacy, Carter Bishop, Brandon Knapp, Grant Arthur Bishop and Samuel Wyatt Griffey; dear friend, Elizabeth Brown, and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane L. Seifley Shay in July 1989; a brother, Jack A. Shay; and a sister, Marjorie Yennie.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Chris Delozier. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Visiting Nurses.
