

Betty J. Clay, 76, of Shiloh, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 19, 2015, at Kindred Hospital, Mansfield, Ohio. She was born November 24, 1938, in Morehead, Kentucky, to the late Bird and Stella (Fultz) Stevens.
Betty was a member of Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church for 45 years, where she rejoiced in attending and worshiping the Lord with her family and friends. She was an area homemaker her entire life and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In her spare time, she could be found baking, canning and watching the many hummingbirds that visited her house.
She is survived by four children, Letha Cooley of Rome, OH, Stephen Clay of Mansfield, OH, Stella (Tony) Finnegan of Rome, OH and Rhonda (Dan) Kelly of Morehead, KY; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sisters, Audra (Earl) Kelly and Patricia (Harold) Owens; brothers, Billie Joe (Juanita) Stevens and James Oliver (Greta) Stevens; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Burnice Hearl Clay; son-in-law, James Cooley; brother, Clester Stevens; and sister, Esther Faye Clay.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Staton and Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
