Beverly Charlene “Char” Hutchison, age 81 of Mansfield passed away peacefully and went to be with her loving husband of 56 years on December 13, 2020 at the LSS Good Shepherd Nursing home with family at her side. She was born September 18, 1939 to Richard and Elizabeth (Fisher) Holloway in Mansfield, Ohio.
She was a 1957 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and served as her class secretary while assisting in planning all their class reunions. She attended Bowling Green State University where she majored in theatre and a minor in piano and voice. She also attended Ferris State College in Michigan with a major in business. She taught in Michigan and St. Peters in Mansfield for a short time.
In 1958, Char met her husband, Robert Hutchison at her father’s restaurant, Dix Diner. On December 24, 1963 “Bob” proposed and on May 10, 1964 they married. On March 11, 1966, four beautiful children came to live with them, all under the ages of 5. From 1967-1970 they had three children of their own. All seven children were raised with unconditional love until their adult years.
In 1977, Char & Bob bought Doc’s Carryout and ran it for 15 years. She then worked eight years for Civil Service and 13 years for the Board of Elections. Char’s love of theater started in 1976 with The Mansfield Playhouse and performed in over 40 shows. She served as President of the Board of Trustees two different times and was a lifetime member of the Guild Committee. On May 20, 1976 she was awarded “Woman of the Year” from the Women’s Club. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church since 1964 serving on many boards. In 1967 a group of church couples started a monthly dinner night which established deep friendships in which it still carries on. Her friends and family remember her well for all her birthday parties and picnics.
Char found pleasure in gardening, crafting, knitting, reading, cooking, country music, spending time with her family and grandchildren as well as her friends and neighbors. She especially loved having her craft shows at their White Pine house that she had for 15 years.
Char adored her husband and their marriage was a beautiful love story. She had a heart that was sincere, a spirit that was genuine and a smile that was beautiful.
She is survived by her children April (Dennis) Luedy, Beth Hutchison, David (Lyndsay) Hutchison, Todd Roberts, Freda (Kurk) Cornell, Tina Mulvane, 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A private service for the family is being planned with a memorial to be held at a later date, post-pandemic. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice for the many months they gave both of our parents and to LSS Good Shepherd for the love, support and care they gave her in these last few months.
