Billy Phelps

Billy Marian Phelps, 87, of Mansfield, died August 24, 2015. Born June 5, 1928 in Mather, PA, he was the son of Delver and Mary (Denny) Phelps. Billy grew up in Mather, just outside Waynesburg and went to work as a coal miner and skunk trapper. He was a true hard worker, always doing what needed to be done to make ends meet, even at a young age. Billy moved to Ohio in the 1950's. Of his 32 year career, he only missed one day of work. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing out in his yard, and taking trips to Canada and out west.

Surviving are his son, John Phelps of Mansfield, Joe (Debbi) Phelps of Clarksville, TN, and Mike (Terri) Phelps of Smyrna, TX; grandchildren, Joey (Jenny) Phelps, Michelle Phelps, Jennifer (Chris) Phelps, Christopher Phelps, and Scott (Kala) Phelps; and six great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Olive J. Phelps and brothers, Dale and Gene Phelps.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 1295 Twp Rd. 653, Ashland. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
