Burlyn Maglott

Burlyn J. Maglott, 92, of Lucas, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at Colonial Manor Health Care. He was born June 23, 1916, in Mifflin Township to the late Louis F. Maglott and Laura Simpson Maglott. A graduate of Lucas High School in 1934, he worked for Westinghouse Electric, later White Westinghouse, for over 32 years retiring in 1975. He was also a good farmer and liked to see things grow and knew that-only by the help of God-he would have a bountiful harvest. He served as trustee of Mifflin Township, Ashland County and also on the Zoning Board of Appeals. A former secretary and trustee of Mt. Zion Cemetery, he also served as Superintendent of the cemetery for over 40 years, starting in 1960 as a temporary job. Burlyn was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Lucas and served on the building committee, former treasurer, secretary, church councilman, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Venus Masonic Lodge #152 F. & A.M., the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and Richland County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed traveling, visiting 48 states, Vancouver Island, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and the Canadian Rockies.

Burlyn is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille Mowers Maglott; a son, Roger Janet Heimberger Maglott; four grandsons, Craig Heidi Maglott, Bryan Kari Maglott, Heath Julie Maglott, Aaron Maglott and his friend, Kimberly; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jillian Maglott; a brother, Max Maglott of Lucas; and nieces and a nephew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Maglott in 1967; sister, Helen Smith; and brother, Herschel Maglott.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Daley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the endowment fund at Mt. Zion Cemetery or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
