Carl W. Strine

Carl graduated from Ashland High School and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from Ashland University. He taught for 30 years in the Mansfield City School system, primarily at Prospect, as an elementary physical education teacher. During the summer months, Carl could be found at Brookside Park, where he worked as manager of the swimming pool for 26 years.

Carl was an avid sports fan. He and his wife, Gloria, faithfully attended athletic events for both Ashland High School and Ashland University, traveling to all the away games for AU football, camping overnight in their beloved Volkswagen camper. At the football games, you could find Carl on the sidelines as part of the chain crew. He also enjoyed playing softball, so much that he played until he was in his 70's.

Carl is survived by his children, Mike Strine of Ashland, JoAnne (Jamie) Kash of Ashland, Carol (Robert) Polin of Austria and Cindy (Ray) Mastriani of Galloway; grandchildren, Kate (Steve) McGrath of Baltimore, Maryland, James (Brindi) Doyle of Ashland and Jennifer (Matthew) Latham of Columbus; great grandchildren, Cecilia and Vincent McGrath, Maylyn Latham, Aubrey Mowery, Brian and Ian Humphrey, Erica and Luke Yost, Garrett Braden, Jackie Meyers and Jared Kash; sister, Glorine Cody; brother-in-law, Jim Reynolds; sister-in-law, Pat Strine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife, Gloria (Glasener) Strine, whom he married on December 24, 1949 and passed away on April 4, 2017; daughter-in-law, Kathy Strine; granddaughter, Meghan Strine; and seven brothers and one sister.

Friends may call on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 320 Church St., Ashland conducted by Rev. Michael Parker. Burial will follow in Vermillion Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Ashland University Athletics.
