

Carol F. Pittenger, 77, of Mansfield, Ohio, died December 2, 2014. Born July 13, 1937 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Edmond and Flossie Etzwiler. Carol worked for Ohio Insurance and later the Kroger company as a florist. She was a very kind and generous woman who loved her family and friends deeply. She relished a good book and a lively game of poker. Everyone wanted to be on Carol’s team for Trivial Pursuit as she could whip anyone in the room with her knowledge of history. Carol was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ. She was the beloved wife to her husband, Thomas L. Pittenger whom she married on Valentine’s Day in 1970. She was a devoted and caring mother to her stepdaughters and took great pride in being a grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Pittenger. Surviving are her stepdaughters, Susan (Clarence) Mayhugh, Deborah (Neal) Havener, and Donna (Dave) Merrick; granddaughter, Lily Merrick; brother-in-law, Jerry Pittenger; sister-in-law, Mary Pittenger; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she all loved dearly.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 1-2 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario, OH 44906. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Dawn Donato, will be held immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
