
Catherine Lucille Reed, 96, died Sunday, September 21, 2008. Affectionately known by most as Bobbie, she was born August 2, 1912, in Richland County to Clement and Maude Herring. She was the youngest of five daughters who grew up at what is now known as Malabar Farm. Her parents sold their farm to Louis Bromfield in 1939. She married Paul J. Reed on September 28, 1935 and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Bobbie initially worked in payroll at Westinghouse, taking time off to rear two sons. Later, she worked as a secretary for Art Darling Nationwide Insurance. After retirement, she volunteered at Peoples Hospital. Bobbie was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lucas for many years. She took pride in cooking and entertaining her friends and family. She was a member of the Perrysville Music Club and Perrysville Women's Club. She was fortunate to have traveled to many countries. A highlight of her travels was crossing the Atlantic by the Queen Mary and returning on the Concorde. For thirty years, she spent winters in Arizona where she began a hobby making stained glass.
She is survived by two sons, James Janice Reed and Thomas Diann Reed; seven grandchildren, Paula Ed Sauder of Lucas, Lynda Teepe of Naples, FL, Marka Brian Kompa of Lewis Center, Michael Reed of Lucas, John Jennifer Reed of Upper Arlington, Matthew Reed of Pittsburgh, PA and Marcus Reed of Portland, OR; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and her companion, Bob Boughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1985; her parents; four sisters, Florence Wheaton, Erma Arehart, Freeda Faust and Jane Studebaker; and a sister-in-law, Stella Reed.
A memorial service honoring Bobbie's life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lucas on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. David Aune officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Bobbie's name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 W.
