Catherine A. Van Valkenburgh, 93, of Mansfield, died Wednesday afternoon, August 30, 2006, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home. Born February 10, 1913, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Frank and Alvina Sprunger Baumberger. Catherine retired after 30 years as an interior designer at Henchey's Department Store in Santa Monica, California. Known as an excellent seamstress and before her illness, she enjoyed making many of her own clothes. Catherine had a great love for the opera and classical music.
She is survived by a sister, Viola Crandell of Mansfield; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Beth Baumberger of Lucas; two half-sisters, Alice Mae Willison and Violet Bullock, both of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Margaret Baumberger of Fredericktown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Arthur and sister, Dorothy.
Memorial services conducted by Pastor Allen E. Rose, will be held at the home of Frank and Beth Baumberger, Wednesday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
