
He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on June 24, 1925, the son of Charles B. and Ida Baker Campbell.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the infantry 1st Division the Big Red One as a Staff Sergeant. He earned two Bronze Stars.
He was married to Janet Baughman in 1948 and spent most of his life in Mansfield. He was employed by the Omar Bakery Company as fleet manager for 13 years. Later he became a claims investigator and adjuster working for Grange and for Ohio Casualty Insurance. He retired in 1987.
Throughout his life he was active in the Foremen's Club of Columbus, Civitan, North Central Ohio Claims Association, and was a Master Mason, of Venus Lodge 152.
He enjoyed outdoor activities; fishing from his boat on Lake Erie, gardening at his home and traveling by car to Myrtle Beach.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Rainer Peterhof of Regensburg, Germany; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sandra of Crestline, and Martin and Marilyn of Ontario; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Phoebe Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet with whom he was married 55 years.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 6:30
p.m. Monday at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Ted Grotjohn. A Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. and military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingwood Center or the charity of your choice.
