
Charles Lawrence "Chuck" Norris, Jr., 55, of Mansfield, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Lakewood Hospital. Born September 5, 1954 in Stark County, he was the son of Charles and Betty McCracken Norris. He graduated from Madison High School in 1972 and was sworn in as a Mansfield Police Officer on August 2, 1984. Before coming to Mansfield, he was a member of the Ashland Police Department, and was officer of the year in both Ashland and Mansfield. A very patriotic man, Chuck was extremely proud of serving as a police officer. Chuck served as a Safety Town officer. a D.A.R.E. officer, and with METRICH, and was involved in many fraternal organizations. He started community policing at John's Park and was involved in the P.A.L., Police Athletic League. Chuck coached youth baseball, and was an official for numerous youth sports. He also coached football at Mansfield Senior High School and Malabar Middle School. At Mansfield Senior High School he was also a school resource officer and volunteered in many classrooms. An animal lover, Chuck also enjoyed bowling and softball. As a testament to Chuck, all of his children have entered in service careers to help people.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Sautter Norris, whom he married March 26, 2003; sister, Judith Bowie of Mansfield; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles L. and Cassandra Norris III of South Carolina; Tom Norris of Mansfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Camille and Dave Myers, Jr. of Mansfield, and Deanna and John Mack of Mansfield; grandchildren, Brendan Norris, Madysen and Peyten Myers, and Dawson, Brayden, and Caleb Mack; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Eloise Sautter of Lexington; brothers-in-law, Jack Sautter of Lexington, and Bill Sautter of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Sharon Sautter; stepchildren and their spouses, Amber Coning Price of Lexington, Trisha and Ohlen Coning Cartmell of Wyoming, and Chad and Amy Coning of Australia; step-grandchildren, Kasey and Kaitlyn Price of Lexington, Gracie and Darby Cartmell of Wyoming, and Lynsie, Logan, and Leila Coning of Australia; uncle, Don Bush and his family of Georgia; and his dog, Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. A private viewing for Chuck's law enforcement family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home at which time F.O.P. services will be held. Funeral services will be held at Mansfield Senior High School on Wednesday at 3 p.m. conducted by Pastor Mark Dettmer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Officer Norris Scholarship Fund at Sutton Bank.
