
Chester E. 'Nick' Nichols, 80, of Mansfield, Ohio died Tuesday morning, February 20, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield after an extended illness. He was born July 14, 1920 in Bellville, Ohio. Mr. Nichols was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Medical Ambulance Driver in WWII from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW, Masonic Temple, Venus Lodge 152 and the Valley of Canton. Mr. Nichols greatest joy in his life was to spend time with his wife, his children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a man who enjoyed traveling, a thoughtful man who always put other people's needs before his own, always wanting to help others, he was a good person who will be missed by all who new him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dodson Nichols; a very special friend, Glen Brook of Mansfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Nichols of Florida and Chester M. and Wanda Nichols of Lexington; three granddaughters, Lisa Bandy of Columbus, Danette Czernewski, and Tammy Nichols; two grandsons, Scott Nichols, and Phillip Nichols; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Mortimer; three step-daughters, Kris Scheurer of Mansfield, Sue Kowalske of Missouri and Sandy of Oregon; a step-son, Mike Bunn of Los Angelas; two step-grandchildren, Eric Scheurer of Mansfield and Mathew Scheurer of Tokyo, Japan; step-great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Kim and Vaughn 'Tiger' Scheurer; one brother, Harvey Nichols of Bellville; two sisters, Wanda Hollar of Mansfield and Pearl Niman of Bellville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Nichols in 1981; a daughter, Patricia Nichols; and a brother, Carl Nichols.
Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Twp. Rescue Squad in Mr. Nichols memory. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors are handling all the funeral arrangements.
