

Chester P. Ramsey, 90, of Mansfield, died Monday afternoon, January 24, 2005, at his home. Born July 12, 1914, in Butler, he was the son of William T. and Sarah Blanche Leedy Ramsey. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school for 30 years and also sang with the choir. Chet was an avid fisherman, enjoying his trips to Canada with his sons and grandsons. He was a member of the Kiwanis and enjoyed tinkering with and repairing electronics. Chet graduated from Ashland College and was also on the track team and sang in the choir. He began his teaching career in Chesterville, Ohio, and retired from Madison Local Schools where he taught math and science and was also treasurer in the school system for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Mumaw Ramsey; two sons and daughters-in-law, James P. JoAnne Fowler Ramsey of Bethesda, Maryland, and Douglas E. Donna Harris Ramsey of Mansfield; two grandsons, Christopher P. Ramsey and his wife, Kristen, and Ryan E. Ramsey; a great-granddaughter, Emma Ramsey; brother, Harold Ramsey of Mansfield; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Keith Ramsey, two sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Thursday, January 27 from 6-8 p.m. Memorial services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Allen E. Rose and Dalton Derr. Burial will be at a later date in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
