

Daniel "Dan" E. Shear, 61, of Mansfield, died early Sunday morning, July 21, 2013 at Mansfield Memorial Homes following an extended illness. He was born January 12, 1952 in Mansfield, Ohio and was the only son of Darrell "Bud" and Miriam "June" (Hatton) Shear.
Dan graduated in 1970 from Malabar High School and attended the University of Rio Grande. He retired as a Fraud Investigator from Richland County Job and Family Services, where he worked for over 30 years. Dan's passion was racing. In the 1970s, he raced his Mini Cooper and was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, racing many times at Mid Ohio Race Track. He appeared before Formula One of Canada and won numerous races throughout the northern and eastern United States.
Dan's greatest joy was in spending time with his beloved son, Jordan. In his spare time, he also enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his son, Jordan Shear of Columbus and Jordan's mother, Nancy (Letizia) Shear. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 3-6 p.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
